Port forwarding is very important, especially when you want to play online games and your Internet connection is provided by a router. The web server connection needs a specific port on your computer in most cases. However, the router does not know that and does not forward the traffic from the server to that specific port. To solve this problem, a procedure known as port forwarding is performed. The router is configured by using its web-based configuration interface and the ports are forwarded manually.
The program automates the complex task of forwarding ports. Its database contains thousands of router manufacturers and models, so changes are high that you router will be found. In addition, the database contains a huge number of games and applications select any of them to forward the correct ports automatically. You can view more information about your router and then choose which application is forwarded to which IP.
One "hidden" feature is the ability to disconnect the RS232 port, without terminatingthe utility. You can close an RS232 connection with a click in the status fieldin the upper left corner of the window (left of the button bar). Anotherclick on that line re-opens the connection with the current settings.You can use this to "free" the port temporarily for another application.
Most RS232 settings for a device can be chosen by the developer (the Baud rate andthe number of data and stop bits are usually determined by the other device). Onesetting that the developer cannot foresee, however, is what COM port theuser will attach it to. For this reason, Termite contains a "port lookup" functionplus a simple "port scanning" protocol.
Termite presents you with a list of standard Baud rates, but it allows you toenter different values. The key issue is that the RS232 hardware must supportthe Baud rate that you select. All RS232 hardware and all USB-to-RS232 converterplugs support the standard Baud rates, but only few support non-standard Baudrates. We have tested non-standard Baud rates successfully with USB-to-RS232converters based on the FT232R chips from FTDI.
With forwarding set up, all data received on the primary port is transmittedthrough the forward port. All data received on the forward port is transmittedthrough the primary port. The "sent/received colouring" of Termite is also stillin effect: data received on the primary port is in green and data received on thesecondary port is in blue.
Over time, I added features that were needed for specific communication requirementsthat we stumbled upon, such as non-standard Baud rates, port forwarding, time-stampingreceived data and sending/receiving hexadecimal values. The last two items werelater removed from the utility itself, for the sake of keeping the basic utilitysimple, and added back as plug-in filters.

Port forwarding redirects external connection attempts to your local network to a specific device on that network. Most people do not need port forwarding, so ports on a home network should generally be kept closed. But, there are plenty of reasons you might want to set up port forwarding, too.
The port should now be forwarded and visible in the list in the main window. You can check if the port forwarding was successful by selecting Port Tester at the bottom-right of the window.
Like the other software in this list, Port Forward Network Utilities allows you to set up a static IP address, check if your ports are forwarded or configure new port forwarding, and even recover a lost router password.
Select PFConfig to configure port forwarding. PFConfig includes thousands of compatible routers and works with a simple graphical interface. Simply select an application you wish to forward by clicking Forward This App, choose the protocol and destination, then select Update Router.

Simple Port Tester is a free program by PcWinTech.com to help users test if their ports are open with just a few clicks.As of version 2.0.0 and newer of the program now tests both TCP & UDP ports.
The trick with testing if your port forwarding is working is to have something on your computer actually listening on the port. If nothing is listening on the port the test will fail no matter what. This program will open the port, listen for the connection and help ensure a proper and reliable test as to whether or not your port forwarding is working.

Its no different than using Firefox, IE or any other browser to setup port forwarding yourself. The program works by automating the process for you. The main interface of the program is small and clean. Giving options of seeing what is going to be forwarded to the router and how many entries and ports it will use in the process. You have the ability to save your list and send it to another user of the program. An example would be, lets say you have a family member who lives far from you and doesn't really understand port forwarding, so instead of spending a lot of time over the phone walking them through it you can simply have them use the program and have them load the list and update their router, then your all done. Now that's a time saver.
The program has many extra tools, such as a tool to set your IP to static or back to DHCP. When port forwarding the router forwards to an IP address. When DHCP is enabled your IP address can change and thus breaking the port forwarding. By setting your IP to static it never changes. I added this tool to make setting a static IP as easy as possible for people instead of manually doing it on there systems (Which if a person has never done it before can be a little intimidating). The Program also makes adding the ports to the windows firewall as easy as a few clicks! Once you have your ports forwarded you can then test to see if they can be accessed right from with in the program using the built in port tester.
One nice thing about the program is you can see it working with your router. So if there is a problem you will know, also it feels better seeing what's going on with your router instead of just hoping the program is working. The program has other small features, such as a easy way to download and keep the router, program ports and languages up to date with a simple click of your mouse.
Add to this the fact that most routers include built in firewall that effectively close down certain communication ports, and many people start to run into problems. Port forwarding enables you to open up communication channels, but this is not always easy when using a router's front end.
Simple Port Forwarding, as the name would suggest, has been designed to make the configuration of port forwarding settings as easy as possible. There is built in support for hundreds of different routes, including models from Netgear, D-Link and Linksys.
SSF also allows dynamic port forwarding with a SOCKS server from the client to the server (option -D just like SSH) and from the server to the client (option -F which SSH does not allow)

SSF provides basic shell support on Windows, Linux and OS X with -X and -Yoptions. Default shell is cmd.exe on Windows and /bin/bash on Linux or OS X. The shell is fully configurable by modifying ssf.services.shell configuration file section (e.g. you can set Powershell as the default shell on Windows, see below).
